1. Can you tell us something about yourself? Why did you choose a career in healthcare?
Hello. My name is Natália, I am 26 years old, and I come from Bardejov. I studied at the University of Prešov in Prešov - Faculty of Health Care. After successfully completing my studies, I decided to leave Slovakia, and my journey led me to neighboring Austria, where I still work today. Why did I choose healthcare? I have always been fascinated by paramedics and nurses. I enjoy taking care of people and helping them. One must have this ingrained within themselves. I believe it is more of a calling for me than a job. However, it is a profession, and I would like to advance in it.
2. How did you learn about our agency, and what motivated you to contact us? How was the job placement process through our agency? Were you satisfied with the communication and support you received? Do you have any specific examples you would like to mention?
After successfully completing my studies, I actively started looking for employment. Thanks to a recommendation from my friend, I learned about the agency ALSES. The main motivation for contacting the agency was the recommendations from healthcare professionals who were already working under this agency, offers suitable even for university graduates, and last but not least, the financial remuneration. From the first contact with the agency staff, I had a very good feeling. During the initial interview, we discussed all the steps necessary to obtain a job. Subsequently, we began gathering all the documents required for working abroad. I must highlight the communication from the agency. They were very helpful throughout the entire process. From the very beginning, they communicated with me, assisted with obtaining documents, whether in Slovakia or Austria.
3. What was your experience with the process of having your education recognized in Austria? What advice would you give to other healthcare professionals going through this process?
The entire process of having my higher education recognized by Austrian authorities took 2-3 months. I communicated with the office in Vienna, which provided instructions for the process, and I had to fulfill these requirements by a certain date. Initially, it was very stressful because I needed a lot of documents and forms, and honestly, I didn't fully understand everything. But everything went smoothly. The agency was available to me the whole time, helping and guiding me. I recommend future healthcare professionals not to hesitate to ask for help or advice in any situation. Additionally, I would advise them to be patient and see it through to a successful end. You will never regret it.
4. How would you describe your first day at work in Austria? What were your first impressions?
I think the first day at a new workplace is very challenging anywhere. Stress plays a significant role, of course. It was my first job, and moreover, in a country where my native language is not spoken. I remember going to work with great respect but also with apprehension. However, after a few hours, all my worries faded away. My colleagues were very kind and helpful, which made a great impression on me. They accepted me into the team without reservations, so I felt really very satisfied.
5. What do you think are the main advantages of working in Austria? Did you face any significant challenges? If so, how did you overcome them?
Among the main advantages are, of course, the facilities of the departments where we work. Another advantage is that you can advance to a better position within a few months. I also appreciate the working hours, which I always set with my supervisor, allowing me to spend a sufficient amount of time in Slovakia, which I also consider an advantage. And last but not least, there is the financial remuneration. So far, I haven't faced any challenges or significant obstacles, so I can't assess that.
6. What are your personal experiences with life in Austria outside of work? What do you like most about this country?
During my free days, I enjoy spending time with my colleagues over coffee and shopping. :) I like to walk around the city and explore the surroundings. Austria has truly beautiful nature, mountains that I recommend seeing, it's an experience... Overall, I like the peace in this country, you can really feel it.
7. What advice would you give to someone considering working in Austrian healthcare through our agency? What would you like to tell potential applicants about what they can expect and how to prepare?
It's important not to be afraid! It's crucial to have motivation, and that will drive you forward. If you are skilled, eager to learn, work on yourself, and open to new opportunities, you can expect only positive things.
8. What are your future plans? Do you plan to stay in Austria, or do you want to return home (or to another country)?
I've been in Austria for some time now and plan to stay here further. Currently, I am satisfied with my work schedule, spending half a month in Austria and half a month in Slovakia. However, I don't have ambitions to live abroad permanently. But as I always say: "Never say never" :)
