Job description

Caregiving for a 91-year-old senior (170 cm, 78 kg) who lives in an apartment (78 m²) in Dresden. He suffers from mild senile dementia (Alzheimer's) and his memory is gradually deteriorating; physically, he is mildly limited following hip joint surgery, has survived a heart attack, has high blood pressure, and cannot manage longer distances on foot. He has an implanted defibrillator – if it emits an audible signal, the family doctor must be notified. He has a mild mobility impairment and a wheelchair is used for walks; lifting is not required. The day follows a fixed schedule: wake-up at 7:30, breakfast preparation at 8:00 and shared meal, followed by housekeeping and a shared walk with the senior in the wheelchair, lunch preparation and shared meal from 12:00 to 13:00, the caregiver has her own free time between 13:00 and 16:00, from 16:00 to 19:00 time is spent together with the senior, dinner preparation and shared meal at 19:00, and the working day ends at 20:00. Night care is not required from the caregiver – it is provided by the senior's female companion, who also lives in the household; the caregiver's job responsibilities relate exclusively to the senior. We are seeking a woman aged 40 to 55 years, non-smoker, with intermediate knowledge of German, no driver's license required. The caregiver has at her disposal a furnished private guest room (20 m²) with a bed, wardrobe, table, chair, and television; a private bathroom, private kitchen, and internet access are also included. Free time is arranged with the family.

Frequently asked questions - Carers

Do you charge fees?

You don't pay our employment agency anything at all. We believe it is not right to charge people money in order to enable them to work, and so we offer assistance in finding job positions completely free of charge.

Do I have to be self-employed?

Most job positions in Germany are based on Slovak/Czech trade licenses, though employment contracts are possible with some families. In Switzerland, work is conducted under Swiss employment contracts.

Do I need a caregiving course to work as a caregiver?

A caregiving course is not required for families in Germany, but you need at least some experience of caring at home. In Switzerland, most families require a caregiving course.

How long will it take you to find me a family?

Finding a family is an individual matter for every candidate, so there is no exact time frame for when we will find you a family that suits you both. In some cases we can arrange a job within a few hours, at other times the wait is a few days. For families in Switzerland, the wait can stretch to a month because of high demand. We place candidates fastest in the summer months, June – August, and more slowly from the end of January to the end of March.

Can you help me travel? Who pays for the trip?

If you wish, we will organise your transport. We have worked for many years with transport companies that our caregivers are happy to use again and again. You can of course choose another way of travelling that you prefer. The caregiver pays for the journey herself and the family contributes to it – €180 – 300 in Germany, CHF 380 – 400 in Switzerland, depending on the offer. If you do not have the cash to travel to Germany, we can pay the fare for you and deduct it from your pay afterwards.

How long are rotations usually?

In Germany a standard assignment lasts 4 – 6 weeks, in Switzerland 2 – 3 months. Replacement assignments are shorter.

What is the salary and what does it depend on?

In Germany the pay is up to €3 500 a month as a self-employed caregiver – the exact amount is stated in each offer. It depends on your German, the client’s state of health and whether you care for one person or a married couple. In Switzerland the pay is up to CHF 3 500 net a month on a Swiss employment contract.

What level of German do I need to have for a carer job?

In Germany, families most often require intermediate to good German; some are happy with basic German and/or want another language, such as Czech, Russian or Bulgarian. Families in Switzerland require good German, although a solid intermediate level is sometimes enough.

Do you also offer work for male carers?

Yes, we successfully place male caregivers with families too.
