Caregiving for an 84-year-old senior (180 cm, 64 kg) in Emmendingen-Liptingen (village), dependency level 4. The senior has experienced a fall and hospitalization (09/2026), suffers from urinary incontinence (pads) and hypertension, but no fecal incontinence. Walking is unsteady, with a risk of falls, has a stiff foot and lacks strength, but walks independently with a walker; usually manages to get up from bed/chair without support. Also suffers from alcohol misuse – prescribed amounts are given diluted without his awareness; he is not aggressive. He does not suffer from dementia, is fully oriented to place, time, and persons, has clear speech, and communicates well. Hearing and vision are age-appropriate, without limitations. He is headstrong, self-determination is important to him, initially reserved to dismissive – building trust takes time. Care includes partial assistance with dressing and personal hygiene (showering, hair washing, shaving), while he manages meals independently (enjoys sweets with afternoon coffee, attention to hydration is needed). Medications are administered by a caregiving service. Job responsibilities also include shopping, meal preparation, cleaning, laundry, providing company, and encouraging walks; the senior is interested in football, sports, and crime series. A domestic helper visits four times a week, assisting with household tasks, shopping, and bringing lunch from the butcher. A garden is available, but no maintenance is required. Smoking is allowed exclusively in the kitchen or outside, with controlled cigarette count. Night work is possible, but has not been necessary so far. The caregiver has a private room with a bed, wardrobe, TV, WLAN, and a private bathroom. A decisive yet empathetic caregiver with good German skills is sought (smoking is not important for her). Finding a family is a highly individual matter for each applicant, and therefore there is no exact timeframe for when we will find you a family with whom you will be mutually compatible. In some cases, we are able to arrange work within a few days; in other instances, the waiting period can be up to a month. For families in Switzerland, due to high demand, the wait may extend to two months.
If you are interested, we can arrange transportation for you. We have long-term partnerships with transport companies that our caregivers happily use repeatedly. Of course, you can also choose another transportation method that you prefer. The caregiver pays for the journey themselves, with the family in Germany contributing €150-200 towards it, and in Switzerland 380 CHF.
In Germany, the standard length of a work period is 4 to 6 weeks, while in Switzerland it's 2 months. In the case of temporary replacements, the periods are shorter.
The salary range in Germany is between €1200 and €2200 per month on a trade license. Compensation depends on the required language and other skills, the client's health condition, and whether care is provided for an individual or a married couple. In Switzerland, the salary ranges from 2460 to 2500 CHF per month on a Swiss employment contract.
In Germany, an intermediate to good knowledge of German is most commonly required, while some families are satisfied with basic knowledge and/or require knowledge of another language, such as Czech or Russian. Families in Switzerland require good knowledge of German, though sometimes an upper-intermediate level is sufficient.
