Caregiving for an 88-year-old blind senior woman (160 cm, 50 kg) in a village, who suffers from general age-related weakness, osteoporosis, and a high risk of falls. She moves independently or with a walker depending on her daily condition, is oriented within her own home, but needs accompaniment when walking, including trips to the bathroom. She recently fell and suffered a pelvic fracture, so preventing further falls is essential. She has mild dementia-related changes, experiences anxiety and fears of being a burden to others, thus requiring emotional support. Additionally, she has high blood pressure; her husband prepares her medication. The caregiver assists with personal hygiene, dressing and undressing, accompanies her to the toilet, provides companionship, and engages her in activities. The caregiver is responsible for household tasks—cleaning, laundry, cooking, and meal preparation; shopping is handled by her husband, as stores are not within walking distance. Night work is generally not required, only in emergency situations; lifting is not required. The household also includes her husband (91 years old), who does not require care, still drives, and has hearing difficulties, so communication must be loud and clear—household management includes him as well. A non-smoker is sought (occasionally tolerated) with a good command of German, without the need for a driver's license (a car with a manual transmission is available). There are no pets. The caregiver has access to a private floor with a guest room, private bathroom, WLAN, and internet. Free time is arranged in agreement with the family.

A caregiving course is not required for families in Germany, but you need at least some experience of caring at home. In Switzerland, most families require a caregiving course.
Finding a family is an individual matter for every candidate, so there is no exact time frame for when we will find you a family that suits you both. In some cases we can arrange a job within a few hours, at other times the wait is a few days. For families in Switzerland, the wait can stretch to a month because of high demand. We place candidates fastest in the summer months, June – August, and more slowly from the end of January to the end of March.
If you wish, we will organise your transport. We have worked for many years with transport companies that our caregivers are happy to use again and again. You can of course choose another way of travelling that you prefer. The caregiver pays for the journey herself and the family contributes to it – €180 – 300 in Germany, CHF 380 – 400 in Switzerland, depending on the offer. If you do not have the cash to travel to Germany, we can pay the fare for you and deduct it from your pay afterwards.
In Germany a standard assignment lasts 4 – 6 weeks, in Switzerland 2 – 3 months. Replacement assignments are shorter.
In Germany the pay is up to €3 500 a month as a self-employed caregiver – the exact amount is stated in each offer. It depends on your German, the client’s state of health and whether you care for one person or a married couple. In Switzerland the pay is up to CHF 3 500 net a month on a Swiss employment contract.
In Germany, families most often require intermediate to good German; some are happy with basic German and/or want another language, such as Czech, Russian or Bulgarian. Families in Switzerland require good German, although a solid intermediate level is sometimes enough.
