Caregiving for a 91-year-old senior (169 cm, 68 kg) who is reliant on a wheelchair and lives alone in a family house in a rural area. There is a risk of falling, as he has fallen in recent weeks. He suffers from arthritis and upper back pain, wears a full dental prosthesis, and had a stroke a few years ago, resulting in left-sided paralysis symptoms. An occupational therapist visits him regularly at home. He eats independently but requires partial assistance with dressing and undressing, personal hygiene, toilet visits, and diaper changes; he wears diapers or uses a commode chair. Medication intake needs to be monitored, with the granddaughter preparing the medication. Moderate lifting is necessary, and the senior cooperates. Available aids include an adjustable bed, wheelchair, commode chair, and a ramp over two steps outside; the bathroom is not wheelchair accessible. Night care is not required, as he typically uses a urinal. The senior mostly sleeps, occasionally enjoys watching football, and the family wishes for him to have companionship and pleasant company during the day. In addition to caregiving, household management is expected, particularly cooking, cleaning, and laundry; shopping can be handled by the granddaughter, who lives a few streets away. Shops are within walking distance, and there is good public transport connectivity. The caregiver has access to two rooms, and internet is being installed. Free time is negotiable. Intermediate knowledge of the German language is required, with no gender preference. Smoking is permitted only outside the apartment (the granddaughter also smokes). A driver's license is not a requirement.

Most job positions in Germany are based on Slovak/Czech trade licenses, though employment contracts are possible with some families. In Switzerland, work is conducted under Swiss employment contracts.
A caregiving course is not required for families in Germany, but you need at least some experience of caring at home. In Switzerland, most families require a caregiving course.
Finding a family is an individual matter for every candidate, so there is no exact time frame for when we will find you a family that suits you both. In some cases we can arrange a job within a few hours, at other times the wait is a few days. For families in Switzerland, the wait can stretch to a month because of high demand. We place candidates fastest in the summer months, June – August, and more slowly from the end of January to the end of March.
If you wish, we will organise your transport. We have worked for many years with transport companies that our caregivers are happy to use again and again. You can of course choose another way of travelling that you prefer. The caregiver pays for the journey herself and the family contributes to it – €180 – 300 in Germany, CHF 380 – 400 in Switzerland, depending on the offer. If you do not have the cash to travel to Germany, we can pay the fare for you and deduct it from your pay afterwards.
In Germany a standard assignment lasts 4 – 6 weeks, in Switzerland 2 – 3 months. Replacement assignments are shorter.
In Germany the pay is up to €3 500 a month as a self-employed caregiver – the exact amount is stated in each offer. It depends on your German, the client’s state of health and whether you care for one person or a married couple. In Switzerland the pay is up to CHF 3 500 net a month on a Swiss employment contract.
In Germany, families most often require intermediate to good German; some are happy with basic German and/or want another language, such as Czech, Russian or Bulgarian. Families in Switzerland require good German, although a solid intermediate level is sometimes enough.
