Parkinson's Personal hygiene

Job description

We are looking for a reliable and empathetic caregiver for a 90-year-old senior (155 cm, 54 kg) who suffers from Parkinson's disease without tremors. She has mild dementia, with symptoms varying according to her current condition. She moves with the help of a rollator or cane, and incontinence occurs only rarely. At night, she can independently go to the toilet with the help of a rollator or cane. The job responsibilities include assistance with dressing and undressing, personal hygiene and showering (particularly washing and drying her back), meal preparation, household management, joint walks, and routine household tasks such as laundry, vacuuming, watering plants, and small shopping errands. The most important task for the caregiver is **the precise administration of medication for Parkinson's disease**. Medications are administered daily at **06:00, 07:00, 11:00, 15:00, 19:00, and 21:00**. The senior has reminders set on her mobile phone, but when alone, she might confuse or take the medications all at once. Therefore, diligent supervision is necessary. Ideally, she should visit the toilet at 06:00 before receiving the first medication. During the day, it is advisable to engage the senior appropriately and spend time with her. In the evening, it is necessary to monitor her fluid intake, ensuring that after 18:00, she drinks only the essential amount of fluids along with her medications. This usually allows her to sleep through the night. Occasionally, a so-called **"attack" of Parkinson's disease** may occur, during which the senior suddenly weakens, needs to lie down, and rests or sleeps for approximately one to two hours. After these difficulties subside, she returns to her usual daily routine. The household is equipped with all necessary aids – a rollator, wheelchair, cane, and soon an electric adjustable bed. The caregiver can use an Econelo electric scooter, electric bicycle, and a regular bicycle. The family is very accommodating and supportive.

Frequently asked Questions - Carers

Do you charge fees?

You don't pay our employment agency anything at all. We believe it is not right to charge people money in order to enable them to work, and so we offer assistance in finding job positions completely free of charge.

Do I have to be self-employed?

Most job positions in Germany are based on Slovak/Czech trade licenses, though employment contracts are possible with some families. In Switzerland, work is conducted under Swiss employment contracts.

Do I need a nursing course for a carer job?

No, completing a caregiving course is not necessary for most job positions; however, it is important to have at least some experience from a home environment.

How long will it take you to find my family?

Finding a family is a highly individual matter for each applicant, and therefore there is no exact timeframe for when we will find you a family with whom you will be mutually compatible. In some cases, we are able to arrange work within a few days; in other instances, the waiting period can be up to a month. For families in Switzerland, due to high demand, the wait may extend to two months.

Can you help me travel? Who pays for the trip?

If you are interested, we can arrange transportation for you. We have long-term partnerships with transport companies that our caregivers happily use repeatedly. Of course, you can also choose another transportation method that you prefer. The caregiver pays for the journey themselves, with the family in Germany contributing €150-200 towards it, and in Switzerland 380 CHF.

How long are rotations usually?

In Germany, the standard length of a work period is 4 to 6 weeks, while in Switzerland it's 2 months. In the case of temporary replacements, the periods are shorter.

What is the salary and what does it depend on?

The salary range in Germany is between €1200 and €2200 per month on a trade license. Compensation depends on the required language and other skills, the client's health condition, and whether care is provided for an individual or a married couple. In Switzerland, the salary ranges from 2460 to 2500 CHF per month on a Swiss employment contract.

What level of German do I need to have for a carer job?

In Germany, an intermediate to good knowledge of German is most commonly required, while some families are satisfied with basic knowledge and/or require knowledge of another language, such as Czech or Russian. Families in Switzerland require good knowledge of German, though sometimes an upper-intermediate level is sufficient.

Do you also offer work for male carers?

Yes, we have been successfully placing male caregivers in families as well.
